Classes

Tap: Tap differs from other forms of dance most basically in the emphasis on footwork. Correct body alignment, port de bras, and styling are as important to the tap dancer as to the ballet or modern dancer. Among the advantages of the study of tap are the development of coordination of rhythm, timing and phrasing.

Ballet: The study of ballet requires strict discipline that is unsuitable for the very young student. Therefore, our ballet classes begin at age six. The younger students are taught pre-ballet exercises and rhythms which prepare them for the more rigidly structured ballet classes.

Tumbling: Acrobatic skills are taught by repetitious exercise and drill. A good warm-up is very important to help loosen the muscles as to avoid injury. Forward rolls, backwards rolls, head stands, and back bends are taught first. Once these basic skills are perfected, more difficult skills are taught.

Jazz/Hip Hop: Jazz is an exciting and powerful style of dancing wherein movements, rhythm and music from the big city life melts together into a complete expression of energy and life's happiness. Hip-hop is the most recently recognized expression of dance, tied to rap and street music which became popular late in the 20th century. Students learn the latest dance steps: hip hop, street funk, and other cool ways to move. To ensure a proper foundation in dance for all jazz/hip hop students, ballet is recommended.
